We acknowledge the Whajuk people of the Noongar nation, and their Elders past and present, as the Traditional Custodians of the Country on which we tell our stories. We acknowledge the Traditional Custodians of Country throughout Australia, and pay our respect to them, their cultures, and their Elders past and present.
Welcome to Banksia Journal, an online magazine of short stories in fantasy, science fiction, horror, and beyond.
Based in Boorloo, on Noongar Country/Perth, Western Australia, we publish speculative fiction by new Australian authors, for Australian readers (what is speculative fiction?).
We aim to be that foot-in-the-door for emerging Australasian writers.
If you’re not from Australia, don’t worry, we also welcome readers, and writers from Aotearoa New Zealand, and elsewhere in the Australasia region.
So please, settle in, and pick up one of our stories. A new one goes up each month. We hope you find something you like! Not sure where to start? Try something random.
And writers, we’re always looking for new stories, so make sure to check out our submission guidelines.
